Instructor Development Program

Min Age: 13

The Instructor Development Program (IDP) is a hands-on training pathway for young sailors that develops them into confident,qualified Australian Sailing Instructors. The program builds leadership, teamwork, and communication skills, preparing participants for exciting career opportunities in the marine and sailing industry, opportunities that can take them around the world! 

Eligibility

Minimum entry is the Australian Sailing Assistant Instructor Course. This is run annually in April with the date is published in October. The AI Course has a minimum sailing skill requirement. This is usually gained after a couple of seasons, those that are racing will get there after one season. The AI should be confident skippering a boat and sailing alone in 15 knots.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

Participants registered for The Duke of Edinburgh Award can use the Instructor Development Program. Our program allows them to reach outcomes required for each stage of the award through Dukes 4 Sport. 

Time Commitment

Participants are required to commit approx 4 hours per week for shifts from April-September. Training courses are a requirement to progress through the program.
