Join Our Training Academy Team at Darwin Sailing Club in 2026!

Our Training Academy season runs from 1 May to 1 October to align with Darwin’s stunning Dry Season, and we’re excited to expand our team for 2026. We run training programs 7 days a week throughout this period and are looking for passionate Instructors to join us!
Located on beautiful Fannie Bay, just 5–8 minutes from Darwin City, our location is perfect for watersports enthusiasts. We run programs both on the bay and nearby at Lake Alexander in East Point Reserve, with accommodation supplied by Hudson Berrimah: Hotel Apartments the Club is only a 5 minute walk up the road.
At Darwin Sailing Club, we invest in our instructors. We offer professional development and opportunities to broaden your skills in areas like bar service, administration, and maintenance. Thanks to our strong national network, we can also help connect you with summer-season roles (October–March) at clubs in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne.
About the Role:
We offer a broad range of programs including adult, youth, and kids’ learn-to-sail, as well as schools groups, community groups, corporate clients, and programs for those with disabilities and disadvantages. Our current fleet includes Dinghies (RS Quests), Kids’ Optis, SUPs, Kayaks and Wings. As an instructor, you’ll ensure every session is safe, engaging, and fun while delivering high-quality coaching in line with Australian Sailing policies. Our inclusive, community-focused environment welcomes families, school-aged children, adults, and people with disabilities.
What You’ll Do:
-Lead exciting, safe, and well-structured sailing and watersports sessions
-Engage with participants to create a welcoming, fun & positive experience
-Ensure equipment is set up and ready for every session & packed down correctly after each session
-Work as part of a supportive and professional team with out other Seasonal Instructors & Youth Assistant Instructors, Coordinator & DSC Team
-Monitor safety, assess risks, and maintain equipment

-If you hold RYA qualifications, there is a pathway to convert these to Australian Sailing certifications. Don’t hesitate to apply if you’re interested—conversions do take time, so it’s best to get started early!
* Darwin's location is considered regional! Instructing in Darwin counts towards Working Holiday Visa regional work requirements! *
Required Qualificiations & Certificates:
-Australian Sailing Dinghy Instructor or RYA equivalent (in date)
-Australian Sailing Powerboat Handling Certificate or RYA equivalent (in date)
-Current First Aid/CPR Certificate
-Current Australian Drivers License or Overseas transferable (manual preferred)
-OCHRE Card (NT Working with Childrens Certificate)
Skills & Experience:
-Maintain the standards of a Discover Sailing Centre
-Deliver Australian Sailing Programs
-Exceptional skills in communicating with parents, children, youth & members
-Session Planning
-Leadership and Mentoring Experience
-Excellent organisational time management skills
-Prior instructing experience is highly sought
-Ability to instruct people of all ages and skill levels
-Boat rigging and repair skills
Remuneration:
-Subsidised Instructor Accommodation in Hudson Berrimah: Hotel Apartments
-Competitive rates based on Level 3 - Leisure Attendant Grade 2
-Weekend Casual Loading
-Position is based on 25-30 hour work week; additional hours can be made by working in the Club bar OR maintenance (availability dependent). We try our best to sustain 30-35 hours/week.
