Tackers 2, previously the Red Fleet program, at Darwin Sailing Club is perfect for children who are eager to start sailing on a weekly basis. Tailored for young sailors who are building confidence and refining their skills on the water. Designed as the next step for those who have completed Tackers 1. This course is located at the Darwin Sailing Club giving participants their first experience of sailing in the ocean after they have learned the fundementals in Tackers 1.
Tackers 2, focuses on developing intermediate techniques in a supportive, team-oriented environment. Sailors in Tackers 2 learn essential skills like boat handling, sailing theory, and water safety. Sessions are led by experienced instructors who encourage personal growth, fostering independence and sportsmanship.
Full season registration, includes a one-year Junior (Under 18) Membership to the Darwin Sailing Club, valued at $57.00 . On the first day, participants will receive their membership cards and gain access to all social membership benefits!
Program Details:
- Location: Darwin Sailing Club
- Instructors: Friendly & qualified instructors accredited by Australian Sail
- Session Days: Wednesdays AND/OR Sundays
- Recommendded Participation: We suggest attending the full season of Monday OR Sunday sessions.
- If you are a super keen sailor jump into a full season of Monday AND Sunday sessions and sail 2x a week all dry season!
- Pricing: We offer PRO-RATA pricing if you join later in the season!
- Receive: 1 year Junior (Under 18) Membership
Pre-Requisites:
- Participants should ideally be water confident, but will always wear life jackets during sessions.
- Have completed Tackers 1
Course Outcomes:
- Get out of irons on their own
- Safely gybe the boat
- Correctly use the tiller extension
- Sailing around a triangle course, including:
- Upwind - on a close-hauled course tacking through the 'no go zone'
- Downwind - with centreboard up
- Reaching - correct sail position
- Demonstrate a 360 and 720-degree turn

What to bring with you:
TOP - You will want a long sleeve shirt or rashie that will protect you from the sun and the stingers!
BOTTOMS - We require all participants to wear some form of Stinger Protection, such as leggings, tights or stinger suit!
CLOSED TOE SHOES - This can be a pair of runners you don't mind getting wet or Aqua shoes from your last snorkelling adventure!
SUN PROTECTION - We recommend bringing a Hat, Sunscreen, Water Bottle and Sunnies!
Whats the Next Step? :
Participants progress at differening speeds. To ensure a good experience it's essential that the foundational skills are solid. We encourage participants to compete in YouthSail NT, to aid in their skill development and get a taste of racing. Chat to your instructor to discuss when its the right time to move to Tackers 3.
